OC graniczne is suitable for a vehicle registered outside the European Economic Area if the driver is entering Poland or another country covered by the policy without a valid Green Card. The policy is not suitable for vehicles registered in EEA countries. Before traveling, you must check that the required countries are listed in the policy as covered.

  • the trip goes through Poland or countries listed in the policy;
  • the policyholder may be an individual or a legal entity;
  • passenger cars, trucks, buses, trailers, motorcycles, and special-purpose vehicles are available.

  • the vehicle is registered in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, or another EEA country;
  • you need protection for your own vehicle — this is not comprehensive insurance;
  • the route passes through countries not listed in the policy;
  • you need to issue the policy retroactively;
  • for travel to Turkey, Serbia, or other countries outside the coverage list, another product is required if those countries are not listed in the document.

Border Insurance Agreement (OC graniczne) ≠ Green Card

Border Insurance Agreement (OC graniczne) — is a motor third-party liability insurance policy issued upon entry into the EU for vehicles registered in countries outside the European Economic Area, if you do not have a valid Green Card. The policy is valid for a limited period and only in the countries specified in the policy.

Green Card — is an international motor liability insurance policy arranged in the country where the vehicle is registered before departure and used in countries participating in the Green Card System.

Where OC graniczne is not valid

The policy is not valid in countries that are not listed in the document as covered. For example, if Turkey, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, or another country on the route is not listed in the policy, this policy cannot be used for that part of the trip. Before payment and before departure, check the list of covered countries in the document.

What data and documents are required

It is better to prepare the documents before filling out the form: without a readable registration certificate, it is impossible to correctly verify the license plate number, VIN, country of registration, and vehicle specifications.

  • policyholder’s passport or ID;
  • license plate number and VIN;
  • make, model, year of manufacture;
  • country of vehicle registration and vehicle type;
  • engine displacement and power;
  • insurance start date and term;
  • email and phone number for contact;
  • a comment if the route is non-standard or an exact coverage period is needed within the 30–364 day range.

How much OC graniczne costs

The cost depends on the type of vehicle and the insurance term. The calculator shows an estimated price for the selected parameters. Final eligibility and cost are confirmed after checking the vehicle data and documents.

Issuing time and manual verification

If all data and documents are correct, issuing may take about 10–20 minutes during business hours. If manual verification, approval, or correction of data is required, issuing will take longer. It is better to submit the application 1–2 business days before the start of the trip. The policy cannot be issued retroactively.

Do not use the policy if it contains an error. The data in the PDF must match the vehicle registration document and the declared travel conditions.

Is the policy valid in Turkey or Serbia?+
No, unless Turkey or Serbia is listed in the document as a covered country. For such countries, local border insurance or another product may be required.
Can the policy be issued on the day of travel?+
Sometimes this is possible if all data and documents are correct. If manual verification, approval, or correction of data is required, issuing will take longer. It is better to submit the application 1–2 business days before the trip.
Can OC graniczne be issued retroactively?+
No. The policy cannot be issued retroactively. The start date is specified when the policy is issued, and the policy can be used only within the validity period stated in the document.

A vehicle registration certificate / technical passport, the policyholder’s passport or ID, license plate number, VIN, make, model, year of manufacture, country of registration, vehicle type, insurance start date and term, email, and phone number are required.
What is listed in the certificate?+
The document lists the vehicle data, validity period, country of registration, vehicle type, policyholder data, and the list of covered countries.
What should I do if there is an error in the policy?+
Do not use a policy with incorrect data. Contact us before traveling to check whether correction is possible. Some errors may require the policy to be reissued.
Will I receive the policy as a PDF?+
Yes. After data verification, policy preparation, and payment, the PDF document is sent to the email address specified in the application.
Can I pay by card?+
At this stage, SWIFT, SEPA, and P2P transfers are available, as well as BLIK payment. After the policy is prepared, you receive the payment details.
Is this the same as a “Green Card”?+
No. OC graniczne and Green Card are different products with different issuing rules, applicability, and territorial coverage.
What kind of insurance is this?+
This is mandatory third-party liability insurance for the owner or user of a motor vehicle, valid only in the countries listed in the policy.
What does the insurance cover?+
Coverage includes: • Bodily injury or harm to the life or health of injured parties; • Property damage to third parties. Minimum guaranteed sums: • 29 876 400 PLN — bodily injury; • 6 021 600 PLN — property damage.
What does the insurance not cover?+
• bicycles and non-motorized vehicles; • damage suffered by the vehicle owner; • environmental damage.
When can recourse apply?+
The insurer may recover the amount paid if the driver: • acted intentionally; • was drunk or under the influence of drugs; • did not have a valid driver’s license; • fled the scene of the accident; • used a stolen vehicle.
When does the policy start and end?+
Start: the policy issue date. Available terms: 30, 60, 90, 180, or 364 days. Termination: • expiration of the term; • theft or total loss of the vehicle; • deregistration.
